Blackbeard Blog: What Happens When A Celebrity Links You On Twitter?

  • thehomme · 3 months ago
This is kinda fascinating. It's very hard to get real world, unspun analytics. Sure the CTR is low but

    a) it would be very interesting to know how his CTR compares with that of another celeb more noted for providing quality links and an older, more thoughtful set of followers

    b) Given that advertisers typically pay between 50p to £2 to get a click these celebs - especially increasingly cash strapped musicians - are sitting on a huge potential source of revenue

    c) Can and if so will, Twitter sell the analytics of big Titter celebs to corporations with the view that said corporation could approach celeb with Twitter ad deal? Fry does plenty of ads and voiceovers so has no qualms about taking the corporate dollar. Would he agree to Twitter Twinnings link for an extra chunk of change?

On an unrelated point. What is it with pretty boys and eyeliner?

might not 4. also be explained by assuming that a portion of his followers don't log in to twitter every day (and perhaps don't follow too many people) so the day after the tweet was in fact the day they first saw it in their feed?

Your maths (I'm English) are wrong. 5724 click throughs from 1,492,000 followers is a touch under 0.004 and therefore just under 0.4%. You're out by a factor of a hundred.

Your point still stands even so, of course.

ARGH basic idiocy there, not converting to % in excel...

Ahem, "I'm English," I said, having blithely assumed (for reasons too stupid to go into) that you're in the U.S. Always good to make a huge and idiotic error oneself when arrogantly pointing out someone else's mistake...
